Each month some absolutely amazing artists have been joining us at the “First State Bank Building” to display and sell their own artwork.  We are providing you with a seek peek at some of the artists that will be joining us this month.  We still have a bit of space left for the November and December events.  If you would like to join us please email us at info@firstfridaymilwaukie.com for all of the details.  Spaces are only $25.00.

Jan Groh

Apicentric Photography

Fine art photographer focusing on bees and their habitat. ” I love to let Nature paint herself on my lens.”  Offering framed and matted work, as well as notecards for as little as $2 each, all hand crafted.

Nancy Yang and Father

Calligraphy and Watercolors

Nancy has been learning chinese calligraphy for over eight years.  She has even won national awards at competitions in China.

K Marie

Fanciful Paper and Glitter

Sally Hurst

Wearable art using reclaimed materials

Being immersed in many mediums at a very young age, has led to a love of art in many forms.  There’s always that thirst for learning something new…. everything from oil painting, ceramics, hand painted floorcloths, wreath design and more.  Sally is also a member of the Trillium Artisans group.

Wanda Buck

Acrylic Paintings

My favorite medium is acrylic on large canvas with an abstract style, using mostly shapes, curves, vivid colors and bold images. A couple of themes that I am currently working on are: (1) A musical abstract theme, with rich browns, reds, earth tones. (2) People and events often with a patriotic color scheme of reds, whites, blues with some added greens and black.

Carolyn Woody

Lunarcat Studios

Laurey Borne and Jeanne Martin

Silver Moon & Sweet Violet

We’ve been doing bazaars for 20 years now.  Both us have been sewing and cooking since childhood … We are good friends who can’t seem to sit still.  We  enjoy gardening, cooking, canning (our upbringing again), sewing and crafting, making quilts (our quilts have been at the same price for over 15 years now, but we can’t make them for that price any longer … feel free to take advantage of those prices this year!  Next year the price will be higher!), Pincecone Christmas Tree Sets, wreaths and wall swags.  Thank you to all who come and enjoy all the wonderful Crafter Bazaars.  You are truly appreciated!

Ryan Kelley Handbags

Ryann Kelly handbags designed and created the handbags for the 2006 Eastern Oregon Livestock Association’s Rodeo Court. In 2007 handbags were made for the Clackamas County Rodeo Court and for the Portland Rose Festival Queen and Princesses. Handbags were made for the 2009 Pendleton Roundup Court. And, a breast cancer awareness handbag was specially created for the “Tough To Wear Pink” fundraiser/drawing at the 2010 Pendleton Roundup.

September 3,2010 **** Live Music and Dancing

on August 31st, 2010 in Live Music by | No Comments

Have you been downtown to enjoy some of the absolutely fabulous music on First Friday?  If you haven’t you have been missing out on some amazing local talent.  I am constantly surprised by the caliber of musicians that are eager to join us.

The line up for this month is as follows:

Springcreek Coffehouse will feature: Johnson Creek Brass

North Main will feature: Will Scriben

City Hall will feature: Sellwood Middle School Marimba Band

12.500 Commercial Window Coverings  will feature: Tradin’ Fours

Wine:30 and Enchanté will feature: John Haverly and Marydith Grant

And if that’s not enough, there will be dancing as well…

Stop by Big Kahuna’s BBQ on the corner of Washington and 21st Streets to see the Hula Dancers.  While you are there ask them about the $2.oo barbeque sandwich special.  I know they will be happy to serve up some of their famous barbeque.  If you had an opportunity to try their fabulous food during the community dance and car show last month you already know exactly what to expect.  Yum!!

After you finish watching the Hula Dancers,  wander around the corner and say hello to Carmen at Cha Cha Cha.  She will be happy to make sure that you receive a Salsa Dancing lesson.  There will be professional salsa dancers onsite to teach you the perfect techniques so that you will be able to dance the night away.
